Vigyan Kunj, the first Co-ed Hostel (Bhawan) in IIT Roorkee, which has emerged as a new possibility of social harmony, was inaugurated by Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, Director, IIT Roorkee, on 10th July 2018. The Bhawan comprises five Blocks, out of which two blocks are allotted to girls and three blocks for boys. The hostel, we called it as Bhawan is a home for 330 boys and 360 girls having single room occupancy. In additional to that, the international students are also residing in this Bhawan. The Bhawan is an inhabiting place for post-graduate students such as M.Sc., MTech., M.B.A., and Ph.D. Scholars.
The Bhawan also promotes sports activities like Carrom, Chess, and Foosball and provides outdoor sports equipment to students like cricket bats, Volleyball, Football, Badminton rackets, etc. In addition to this, Bhawan has all the amenities such as a stationery shop, barbershop, fruits shop, tailor shop, washing room and cycle repairing shop inside he Bhawan premises. Moreover, the Bhawan premises are equipped with a wireless network (Wi-Fi) along with a wired LAN connection to all the rooms for a hassle-free web experience. Furthermore, it has a common mess facility where quality and hygiene are a matter of utmost importance. Apart from these facilities, the Bhawan also has separate canteens for both day and night time, accompanied by a large area for dining activities and common room for various sports and cultural activities. Lastly, Bhawan has developed a well-organized platform for providing optimum experience to the residents, which has been self-improved through proper management of complaints and suggestions through various media.
Dear students, welcome to the very first Co-ed and the youngest hostel on the campus! You must have heard a lot about hostel life, with a few ups and downs! However, let me ensure your stay is as pleasant and enjoyable as possible! You often remember your siblings, cousins, and friends with whom you grew up; the hostel life, on the other hand, will also give you newer friends with whom you can share your feelings, thoughts, knowledge, and many other things. You will learn to work as a team and live in a community. It will also teach you the skills of corporate life and will create a sense of support and cooperation among you. While meeting new people will help you make new friends, you should also be aware that they do not have friendships with anti-social elements (we keep a strict eye on such students)!! This particular hostel is well equipped with many facilities such as a sports room, TV room, laundry room, stationery shop, barbershop, fruits shop, and washing room and a good quality mess!
With that short brief about our hostel and life within, I once again welcome you all and wish you all a very good, joyful, and healthy life on the campus!
